This 'urban cabin' solved one family's desire to eliminate the long weekend commute to their actual cabin. With the room's entrance and view oriented entirely away from the main house, this new space is set apart and feels worlds away … in a Minnetonka backyard.
Steep rooflines, a majestic stone fireplace, terracotta finishes, and hewn timbers honor the CCC-era architecture of our national park lodges, and this clients tastes. High-function features include his-and-hers reading lights, a mini refrigerator (tucked behind framed photos) and a portico overlooking the newly landscaped waterfall. This family easily retreats to their "cabin" every summer evening.
This project won 2007 Contractor of the Year (COTY) awards for the "Best in Show" and "Best Residential Exterior" as well as 2007 Remodeler of Merit Awards (ROMA) for "Best Deck/Patio" and "Best First Time Entrant."
