The 11-foot-wide center island, capped in Italian Statuary White marble, for example, is stained a coffee color to resist visible wear-and-tear that is likely to occur in this high-traffic zone. Crisp white enameling is reserved primarily for cabinet uppers and other decorative trim. Hand-glazed porcelain tile, wrapping all four walls, is stunning yet practical.
Directly off the kitchen is a tailored butler's pantry with butcher block counters, wine fridge and task-specific storage. This ordered space serves as a dry-bar and as additional food prep space when entertaining. Paired with the built-in coffee bar, these two modest, yet high-function spaces, make entertaining easy and elegant.
